Alfresco is 100% JAVA-programmed and therefore completely platform-independent and can be easily integrated within any common IT infrastructure. The entire system is designed for simplicity—from installation and user interface to customizing and scalability, all the way to application development.

Additional technical USP features:

• A central repository based on the JSR-170 standard (fastest available implementation of this standard)
• Powerful search features (full-text, taxonomy) with support of the OpenSearch standard (searching across highly varied, heterogeneous sources of information)
• Smart Spaces – intelligent folders structured based on simple rules, format conversion, further processing of documents.
• CIFS (Common Internet File System). The repository is simply attached as a network drive—while retaining all intelligent properties of Smart Spaces. Documents are accessed by all applications in a completely transparent manner (even for virus scanners!)
• Intuitive web client with Web 2.0 functionality
• A high level of security by attaching to any number of existing authorization and authentication systems (e.g. LDAP)
• A maximum level of support from Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) through availability of many APIs
